4 - 4.5oz, 170-200 yard skein, Multiple hues of gray We love the small flock of Jacob sheep that graze our orchards and the beautiful fiber they grow. They not only provide the natural fertilizer for our cider apple trees, but they also make a mean wooly jumper! Every April, master sheep shearer, Gwen Hinman, carefully trims these puff balls down to size. After which, we spend a great deal of time heavily "skirting" our wool and discarding the inferior parts of the fleece that are too coarse, stained, etc. (apple tree mulch). This allows Scrumpy Ewe to produce the highest quality wool fiber for our yarns. The very talented folks at Junction Fiber Mill in White River Junction, VT did an exceptional job this year spinning the yarn into 4-4.5oz, 200 yard skeins! Softer than previous years, with a good wide staple length that is easy to work with. Scrumpy Ewe's Jacob sheep are white piebald polycerates with large, well-defined black spots and the contrast of colors creates a variety of beautiful natural shades of gray after processing.
