American Wine Project is an experimental winemaking endeavor that takes a focused approach to underrepresented and lesser-known American grape varieties. Winemaker Erin Rasmussen returned to her roots in the upper Midwest after a decade making wine in Napa, Sonoma and New Zealand. She brings energy, creativity and conviction to her wines, which are made from French-American hybrids. Hybrid varieties express flavors, textures and aromas that are not found in vinifera, and have historical and future significance for pest resistance, especially in an age of climate change. American Wine Project explores the frontiers of the American wine industry and produces small lots of balanced, adventurous and noteworthy wines.
